Coming Weeks.

Over the coming weeks, I shall be looking into the lives of my great-grandparents – paternal and maternal.
The series will cover seven weeks not eight as I have an unknown person within this group. I have previously mentioned this in earlier blogs. Of these seven, only two were born in Australia.
To date (it’s the end of July 2023 as I write this.), I will write about what I know. I will be adding context to each person so as to bring them to life. Each writing will be similar – some will have more detail than others especially the five who arrived by ship. If you have read “The Arrivals”, you will already have some idea who these are.
Rabbit Holes.
My mind has already begun to wander down rabbit holes just thinking about my ancestors as they embarked on their lives in Queensland. I have been reading various publications within TROVE (newspapers) and the different almanacs I have purchased on CD.

Life would have been so very different to what our lives are today. Most people don’t even think about where they came from let alone what occurred before they were born into this life. I am about to give some insight into what our ancestors and possibly even yours would have endured way back then.
The five, (infamous five, I shall call them), all had lives before they arrived in Queensland. I will be delving into their lives by adding context to each. I may discuss how I came upon the different records during my travels. Covering my discoveries whilst I explored where they once walked, played, and worked in the villages.
I am sure you will have a better understanding of life back then and hopefully get some ideas of your own to write and record your own ancestors.
Mothers.
Within these writings and due to the fact that more details in records are available about males than females, the female lines will most likely be shorter.

Of course, besides the female joining the male line to become the hard-working household member ensuring all the children were sorted and the home was kept in order.
It was a sign of the times.
Customs change. Language changes. Places change.
The love and caring of the family by the mother does not.
Unfolding.
So, an adventure into the lives of my great-grandparents is about to unfold. I will be naming each person unlike in my previous writings. How I write will be no different or will it be?. All I write is my own work and my observations from the various records and information I have located. As you know, every person has a different view to mine and I respect that. If we were all the same then life would be extremely boring.
Journey.
When I set out on my blog journey, I had no real idea, where it would take me. The first half of 2023 was about my discoveries, my excitement and my joy at being able to share my knowledge and experience of researching family history. The ups and the downs. I would have lost count of the time factors it has taken me to get to where I am today. It is a never-ending story that will continue, way after I have left this life – who will pick it up and continue I have no idea.

Let’s go…
