This is the 50th writing to be published in a very eventful year. Since the end of January 2023, I have been on an emotional roller coaster – full of memories, happiness, sadness and everything in between.

Recap.
The first half of the year to the end of June was more about generic family history – some of my findings, the do’s and don’ts and my own experience of my journey through exploring and discovering over the past 40 or so years, when I commenced this journey into “Where did I come from?” This part of my writings showed there was an interest in what I had done and achieved.
The second half of the year to now has been more personal. It has been about my memories of my ancestors.

I wrote about my memories of my grandparents and covered my great-grandparents. My findings about their arrival in Queensland were researched extensively and I wrote about each of their journeys. Again, it has been the experience of my journey. It has to be said that there has been little interest in my ancestors and what I have written. I suppose it is disappointing but expected.
One big thing I have noted is most people are not really interested in writing about their own ancestors. I don’t understand this because when one passes from this life, all that knowledge and research including the ups and downs is lost forever.
Moving On.
As we approach the end of yet another year, we all ask what is going on in this world. COVID hasn’t gone anywhere. It is still about but most people don’t care. The number of people who cough and splutter without covering their mouths is astonishing. Seems there is no type of caring about others. As I write this (22 November), I am still recovering from COVID which I caught just after the beginning of November. This is a good segue into the Christian Christmas and the year increasing by one.

2024.
New things will be happening in 2024. I will be writing about all things family history. These writings are my observations and my thoughts. No one has paid me for them. Always remember, that everyone has different experiences. My opinions change as well just like the weather.

So to end my 2023, let’s look at the world in a different light – smile, care about others and most of all be positive.
Please note that there will be no content published on Friday, 29 December.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.
