While struggling through my progress with genealogical websites I had forgotten about “The Genealogist”.

This site is different to the others previously mentioned. I do have a diamond subscription. You can try the site out with a 14-day free trial.
Best.
What I like best about the site is the map component which we will delve into a little later. Once you access the website (https://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/), you are presented with a screen showing the following: Discover your family’s story and you can start off immediately with a search. Also shown on the screen is the main menu. This is the same menu once you log in.

The login screen displays the main menu: Treeview, Search, News & Articles, Shop, Help & More. There is a scrolling banner that you can select and most likely end up down a vast array of rabbit holes. The screen displays a “Master Search” where you can select what to search for and which Record Collection to use in that search. To complete the search enter: Forename, Surname and any keywords that are useful for the search. Enter the year of the event. It has a fairly decent scope which can be up to plus or minus 50 years. Then hit the Search button. I’ll let you explore this area at your leisure.

Maps.
To the right of the search box is Map Explorer. I think it is best to explore and discover this area for yourself. It would take an extremely long time to explain everything within maps. There are even layers to be considered. (See below in the Video Tutorials for more information.) You can spend many hours searching the places where your ancestors once lived, played, worked and died…

Menu.
Okay back to the main menu.
Treeview is self-explanatory. You can import your tree from other sources i.e. Ancestry, My Heritage etc. Once you have added your tree, you can then use the menu that is displayed in Treeview.

Search, again self-explanatory where you can: Find Records, Map Explorer, Image Archive and Research Log. Research Log displays records you have searched for which is quite handy instead of creating a written document.
News & Articles: News shows the latest additions to the site by year. There is a year calendar that can be selected
On the right-hand side are Featured Articles, Next Events and Press Releases. DYA Magazines: Bookazines, Periodicals by year. Articles: Featured Articles by year. Who Do You Think You Are? provides written details about the episodes. Then you have, Latest Articles followed by User’s Stories – with articles archived by year.

Shop has links to Basket, Subscriptions and Family History Shop.

Help & More: this area is a treasure trove of useful links:

Video Tutorials: It covers, Map Explorer, Person Search, Family Forename Search, Address Search, Smart Search, Importing a tree from elsewhere.

Subscription.
Explaining the subscription. There are four types, as follows:

- BMD Index (Cost 50 credits) 90 days*
- Starter – 3 months*, 6 months*, 12 months*
- Gold – 3 months*, 6 months*, 12 months*
- Diamond – 12 months* plus Discover Your Ancestors 12-month magazine sub.
Please note: The Diamond subscription gives you access basically to everything along with some exclusive diamond content in some of the records. The asterisk shown above refers to a price cost that is involved. Also note, subscriptions are quoted in pounds sterling.
Overall.
This is a very interesting site but I must admit I have not used it to its full capacity. After this writing, I shall be using it so much more than what I have in the past. I believe the site will be very useful in my research going forward. The site is Genealogy’s Best Mapping kept Website. The National Tithe Record Collection is also available for England & Wales. It is exclusive to The Genealogist.
Explore and Discover. ====================
