Waiting.

In our lives we seem to always be waiting… It is a strange and weird thought to think about. I am fairly sure you could write a list of the current things you are waiting for… My mind is beginning to fill with things that I am waiting for…

Scary.

It has got me thinking about how much of our day we spend in our thoughts of waiting. Go on, create your list and see how many things you are waiting for… It can be mind-boggling, if you were to take the time to record the events you are waiting for! It can actually be scary.

Waiting.

From the beginning of your day, upon waking the list begins… Begin with waiting for breakfast, waiting for others to rise, waiting for the bathroom, the shower, waiting…

If you work, waiting at the traffic lights, waiting to park, waiting for coffee, waiting for the office to open, waiting for your computer to come alive, waiting… We are constantly waiting. Worst of all, it’s only been a couple of hours into your day!

Waiting events fill our day, even if you don’t work or have a day off, even weekends, even holidays – the list is never ending. Then, there are all the events going on around you, right near you, in your State, in your country and around the world…

Thinking.

It got me to thinking about ALL my ancestors that I have located and the things they would have been waiting for… Now, my mind has gone into overflow. I don’t think I have ever thought about this ever until recent events occurred.

The example that has prompted this waiting surfaced when I had a medical appointment. Arriving on time, to be told the person I needed to see had been delayed… Waiting begins…

Why.

Fast forward – one hour later still waiting… This should have begun… the slow forward! Nearly another hour later, finally my turn… but the waiting doesn’t stop. It continues with other things to wait for… Why do we wait? What are you waiting for?

Enough.

Back to the 1800s, but where do I start? I have an ancestor who was born around 1816.

I will never really know what his life was like for him to make a decision to join the British Army, in the mid-1830s. I can only imagine that he must have been constantly waiting… but for what? I know in 1857, he was based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. He must have decided enough waiting… He left the army and returned to England.

His Eyes.

In my investigations into his life, I located possibilities of what he may have experienced. My mind fills with joy at times and sadness at others. The more I looked, the more I got to “see” through his eyes, what his life may have been… At various times, he would have been waiting and waiting.

And then, not knowing what would have influenced him to make the choices he did. More on his story at another time… Waiting!

Journeys.

All my ancestors travelled by sea to arrive in Queensland. Not all at once, but between 1877 and 1912. What were they waiting for? What did they experience once they made that important decision? It would have begun with waiting. It has all been about waiting. This waiting put them into the right place at the right time.

If you have followed my progress and my writings, you would know the journeys each took and where they all ended up – all the waiting…

Mirror.

Now, here we all are – yes, you included – waiting. We all know that “things” will happen. Most is out of our hands.

Even your everyday “things” that you have to wait for. The times you look in the mirror – whether you are happy or sad. You know you are waiting. We all come into this world the same way. We all go out the same way. As I have said before, it’s the bits in between that are different.

Go out and live… you will still be waiting…
