My recent writings have been strange to say the least. With all that has occurred, it is also strange. History, as we know it, seems to repeat. It is not exactly the same. However, it is too close to call. Therefore, we all need to know what our actions and of course, our reactions will be.
Tech.
I mentioned history. What has happened in our world always adds context to our stories we create in relation to our ancestors.
Some of this history has had a major impact on all of us. Wars around this world seem to be the attention grabber. Other instances that come to mind without researching relate to impacts on financial institutions: the suffragettes and pandemics. More recently, technology is front and centre now.
Alter.
A question pops up about history. How does history get altered to suit whoever or whatever?
When this occurs, education is altered. Let’s ask a hypothetical question: If an entire country alters their history to suit, what happens to the rest of the world that has been exposed to the “other” history. What conflict of interest happens when those of the country that has “altered” history meet with those that have a different view?
Control.
Whoever controls the history seems to be in control and this is where a turning point occurs. People really own nothing. They believe they do but look closely… I’ll let you ponder on this.
Question.
The action to take here is to look at one’s thinking. Ask questions. Ask and ask again. To be able to take actions, look in the mirror – not to see if you look good… It’s that saying along the lines of, WHO do you see?
Do you have strings attached i.e. are you a puppet? Or, do you question and have facts to back up your actions. These facts are proven. Just like we do when looking for information relating to our ancestors. A tree with undocumented records is full of “bad” fruit that is… worthless – useless. Is your history like that?
Social Media.
How? Maybe you question. To begin with: STOP taking on board social media content, especially just because your “friend” sends you something which you don’t even read and then share it and then… You get the picture. Begin your actions by being critical about what you see…
One of the best ways – drop social media altogether. Most of what you see nowadays is fake.
Critical Thinking.
I look at my family history research that I have done. It’s taken years. Some trees I’ve seen online, I just wonder! I look at the hints and suggestions I received constantly and I’ve written about this recently. If I accepted every one of these, I may as well not even bother to do anything and throw away my interest in wanting to know where I came from.
I use critical thinking to what I do with this hobby. Do you really know what critical thinking is?
Action.
With a saying I’ve heard recently, “buckle up, buttercup. We are in for a good ride.” Get thinking for yourself. Take action – not the action just because your friends sent you some unbelievable “crap” via social media. Take some responsibility and do what you know is factual and not media hype.
When doing your fact checks, be aware of rabbit holes and I’m not referring to a hole in the ground dug by a rabbit! Some may think, oh yes, that’s what it is! Need I say anymore…
Roundabout.
I enjoy my family history escapades and build my stories on evidence and not some ridiculous suggestion. When I create a story, I add historical context. I have done my research and documented it.
I know I can rabbit on… (no, not a rabbit hole) but sometimes one has to do that to get a point across. Stop just believing everything you see – get off that magic roundabout. Go out – you know what’s coming. We are at that turning point. Will you do your bit?
